				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-size: 16px;">Gli americani la indicano con un acronimo, <span style="text-decoration: underline;">CER</span>: <i>Chemical Education Research</i>. Noi traduciamo con “ricerca nella didattica della chimica”, ma non abbiamo una sigla corrispondente; forse perché da noi è considerata un’area di ricerca inusuale, e non v’è la necessità di abbreviare una espressione pronunciata poco frequentemente. Eppure in Italia esistono molti validi studiosi dei metodi di insegnamento-apprendimento della chimica; purtroppo la loro diffusione non è capillare, anche a causa della carenza di centri di ricerca educativa in molte aree del paese. Inoltre un chimico che si specializza nella didattica non ha un percorso di carriera universitario come quello di chi sceglie di dedicarsi alla classica attività di ricerca sperimentale; al contrario, in paesi come gli Stati Uniti è molto comune trovare all’interno delle Facoltà di Scienze il dipartimento di “Chemical Education” così come quelli di “Organic Chemistry” e “Nanotechnology”. Non solo: se in Italia si sceglie di studiare chimica è molto raro trovare nell’offerta formativa corsi di didattica o fondamenti storico-epistemologici di questa disciplina, tantomeno corsi di dottorato che permettano di coltivare tale tipologia di studi. Fortunatamente la situazione sta lentamente cambiando per la necessità di fornire una adeguata formazione universitaria ai futuri insegnanti. Una lodevole eccezione è rappresentata dall’Università di Camerino, la cui <i><span style="text-decoration: underline;">School of Advanced Studies</span></i> ha istituito percorsi di respiro internazionale anche nel campo della didattica delle scienze sperimentali (biologia, geologia, chimica e fisica).</span></p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-size: 16px;"><i>The Sceptical Chymist</i> (1661) è l’opera fondamentale di <b>Robert Boyle</b> (1627-1691), e forse il primo libro di chimica in senso moderno. Il natural phylosopher irlandese contribuì ad elevare la chimica da arte pratica a scienza, accettando i risultati sperimentali del tempo ma, rifiutando le teorie metafisiche sovrapposte. Boyle come successivamente <b>Joseph Prietsley</b> (1733-1804) di cui ci siamo già occupati, erano innanzitutto filosofi: loro elaborarono una visione unitaria della Realtà in cui la chimica e in particolare la sperimentazione avevano un posto importante.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 16px;">Oggi Boyle è noto soprattutto per l’omonima <b>legge sui gas</b>: in un sistema chiuso e a temperatura costante, la pressione e il volume sono inversamente proporzionali. In termini della legge dei gas ideali, scriviamo P= nRT/V. Tuttavia, Boyle fu molto di più…</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 16px;">Nel ‘600 la struttura della materia era oggetto di profonde controversie. Prevaleva una visione d’ispirazione aristotelica che considerava la ‘materia formata’ che osserviamo intorno a noi, composta da quattro ‘<b>elementi primitivi</b>’: terra, aria, fuoco e acqua. Questi elementi erano ritenuti alla base dei ‘corpi misti’ risolvibili, in linea di principio, nei primi. Gli elementi fondamentali erano portatori di qualità (ovvero delle proprietà che hanno i corpi di originare sensazioni, di modificare gli altri corpi e di essere a loro volta modificati) che trasmettono ai composti: umido, secco, freddo e caldo. Image: Lawrence Livermore</i>Element 117, first discovered by <a href="https://www.llnl.gov/">Lawrence Livermore</a> scientists and international collaborators in 2010, is one step closer to being named.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 16px;">The existence of element 117 and its decay chain to elements 115 and 113 have been confirmed by a second international team led by scientists at <a href="http://www.helmholtz.de/en/helmholtz_centres_networks/zentrum/detailansicht/gsi_helmholtz_centre_for_heavy_ion_research/">GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research</a>, an accelerator laboratory. The research will appear in an upcoming issue of the journal,<i> </i><a href="https://journals.aps.org/prl/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevLett.112.172501"><i>Physical Review Letters</i></a><i>.</i></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 16px;">The next step is for the <a href="http://www.iupac.org/">International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry</a> (IUPAC) to accept the confirmation. The IUPAC will review the new findings and the original research and decide whether further experiments are needed before acknowledging the element&#8217;s discovery. After acceptance, IUPAC would determine which institution may propose names.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 16px;">In the German experiments, scientists bombarded a berkelium target with calcium ions until they collided and formed element 117. Element 117 then decayed into elements 115 and 113. Livermore researchers Narek Gharibyan and Dawn Shaughnessy and former postdoc Evgeny Tereshatov participated in the German experiment.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 16px;">Lawrence Livermore teamed with the <a href="http://flerovlab.jinr.ru/flnr/">Joint Institute for Nuclear Research</a> in Russia (JINR) in 2004 to discover elements 113 and 115. The LLNL/JINR team then jointly worked with researchers from the Research Institute for Advanced Reactors, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Vanderbilt Univ. and the Univ. of Nevada, Las Vegas, to discover element 117 in 2010.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 16px;">Elements beyond atomic number 104 are referred to as super-heavy elements. The most long-lived ones are expected to be situated on a so-called &#8220;island of stability,&#8221; where nuclei with extremely long half-lives should be found.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 16px;">Although super-heavy elements have not been found in nature, they can be produced by accelerating beams of nuclei and shooting them at the heaviest possible target nuclei. Fusion of two nuclei — a very rare event — occasionally produces a super-heavy element. They generally only exist for a short time</span></p>
