American Society for Microbiology Launches iPad App for ASM Press eBooks Store

Free app provides microbiologists with instant access to growing collection of eBook titles from ASM Press

Washington, DC – January 30, 2013 – A new app for the iPad allows microbiologists and other scientists to purchase and access an entire library of microbiology books.  Launched by the American Society for Microbiology’s (ASM) publishing arm, ASM Press and developed by Impelsys, the new app is now available on iTunes.

“Our customers wanted to be able to read ASM Press eBooks on their iPads,” said Christine Charlip, director of the ASM Press. “This new app will make it easier for customers to directly access books purchased through our eBooks Store and use them to enhance their education or research.”

“This new app allows microbiologists to quickly obtain the content they need directly onto their iPads, and it helps the organization create a model where their valuable content can be accessed on-demand from any location in the world.” said Sameer Shariff, chief executive officer of Impelsys.

The ASM Press eBooks platform was developed by Impelsys and runs on the company’s award-winning iPublishCentral software. With the ASM Press eBooks library, customers can browse books by category, search in a book, add bookmarks, change the font size of the text to suit their preferences, jump within the text between chapters, and move quickly to tables and references throughout the title.

The free iPad app can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store directly at https://itunes.apple.com/app/id592113630?mt=8 or by searching within the store for “ASM Press eBooks.”
