Today’s consumers have greater expectation than ever before regarding food. The expectations are symbolized by a consumer needs pyramid:

- The basic requirements are consumer “safety”
- In the middle “product conformity” to bring consumer satisfaction
- At the top “product superiority” that brings consumer loyalty.
