Rules for storage of laboratory chemicals

The potential harm that may rise in the storage of chemicals depends not only on the quantities involved, but also on the particular hazards they pose. Uncontrolled storage is not permitted. The following listed requirements apply to all hazardous chemicals.

(A) Safety Instructions, related to individual laboratory chemicals or classes of chemicals, need to be compiled.

(B) Chemicals must be stored according to the warehousing plan.

(C) Laboratory operators must wear suitable protective clothing like protective gloves, safety goggles, overalls, safety shoes, etc.

(D) A strict ban on naked flames, unshielded lights, smoking, drinking and eating are imperative.

(E) Manipulation of any type of good must be handled to prevent damage of packing and the escape of chemicals.

(F) Laboratory escape routes, emergency exits and access routes for the emergency services must be kept free at all times.

(G) Fire extinguishers, first aid boxes and eye was bottles must be close at hand.
